Stone’s Throw Theater to host pop-up art gallery

LAPEER — The Gallery at Beyer’s Furniture will be home to high-quality art later this month.

Stone’s Throw Theater (STT)’s next bi-monthly weekend Pop-Up Art Gallery for the month of November will feature the work of Michigan artist Kim McKerracher.

STT founder and director Tony Stroh-Piechowski said McKerracher was an artist that’s been on his radar for some time. “When we first started the Pop-Up Art Gallery Shows, we were made aware of Kim and her work. We knew that she was one that we wanted to have as a featured artist at Stones Throw,” he said. “She brings an amazing depth and vibrancy to the work she creates and has really honed a unique perspective to both portrait and landscape paintings.”

In addition to being an accomplished artist, McKerracher has been a practicing nurse for more than 35 years. She has been a Director of Nursing, a professional beach volleyball player, an All-American, a National Walleyball Champion, a HS/Club Volleyball Coach and a single mother of twins.

Kim has been drawing and painting intermittently since 1999 and with her very first show she exhibited her work, she won “Best in Show,” and has since won cash prizes for First, Second and Honorable Mention Awards. She has been awarded a People’s Choice Award and continues to participate in various art walks and paint-outs throughout Michigan.

McKerracher said her inspiration is the beauty of the world around her. “Sublime flowers, rejuvenating waters, and intriguing faces — these are blessings created by God,” she said. “These bring joy to my world which I want to share with others through paint. To be reminded of better moments in life and our connections, can provide an avenue for healing. Art can reset our perspectives.”

Through art, she said, she explores the mysteries of the world. “I am open to embracing the unknown and the uncertainty of art,” she said. “My art certainly cultivates my confusion endurance.”

The Kim McKerracher Gallery Show will open on Friday, Nov. 23 (Black Friday) with an artist reception all day on Saturday, Nov. 24 from noon to 6 p.m. (Small Business Saturday) and will continue to run through Saturday, Dec. 1. Hours for the gallery are Friday, Saturday and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

The Stone’s Throw Pop UP Gallery is located at The Gallery of Beyer’s Furniture located at 423 W. Nepessing St. in downtown Lapeer. For more information on Stone’s Throw Theater and its calendar of events, visit www.stonesthrowtheater.org or call 810- 660-7805.
