Bowling in BOWTIES raises money for Lapeer County Dept. of Veterans Affairs

LAPEER — The Second Annual Bowling in Bowties, coordinated by the View Newspaper Group (publisher of The County Press and Lapeer Area VIEW) was held Saturday evening at Gerlach’s Bowling Center in Lapeer. Proceeds again went to the Lapeer County Dept. of Veteran Affairs (LCVA) to support local programs to assist the nearly 6,000 veterans in Lapeer County.

Saturday’s benefit event included bowling, Fish ‘Bowling’ Auction, a 50/50 raffle, a DJ, photo booth and a caricature artist.

Sponsors included Medstar Ambulance, Kapala Heating & Air Conditioning, McLaren Lapeer Region, Republic Services, Lapeer County Vision Centers, Lakestone Bank & Trust, Ron Hicks Farm Bureau Insurance, Village Printing, Fairway Catering, Burke’s Flowers and Loc Performance.

The 2019 Bowling in Bowties raised more than $4,000 for the LCVA.

Republic Services, a waste disposal and removal business, was one of the sponsors of Saturday’s Bowling in Bowties. Posing with their sponsor poster were employees Brenda VanEtten, Phil Guerra and Tom Castle. Republic Services presented a “Hero” award to Vietnam War veteran Carl Coffey, also a morning radio personality with classic rock radio station WQUS.
