Farmland conservation topic of workshop at Nolan Farms


METAMORA TWP. — Area farmers and agriculture producers are invited to a workshop titled “Utilizing the Farm Bill on Your Land” to be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 at Nolan Farms, 5261 Thomas Rd. in southern Metamora Township.

The workshop is sponsored by the Lapeer Conservation District, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP). It will include: discussion on the process to start and implement a conservation plan; a farm tour and questions and answer session regarding high tunnel, prescribed grazing, fueling facilities and more. The workshop will also include Phase 1 of MAEAP.

Speakers will include:

• Christina Nickola, NRCS District Conservationist: Conservation planning and Farm Bill programs;

• Rob Malcomnson, MAEAP technician: Manure management;

• Phil Kaatz, MSU Extension Educator: Forage management.
