‘Unite and Ignite’ concert by 3rd Degree Burns on Saturday

DAVISON — It’s February, which means it’s time for the 12th Annual Young Musicians Community concert featuring youth-led rock band 3rd Degree Burns’ the ‘Unite and Ignite’ Concert Tour 2019.

This year’s concert is Saturday (Feb. 23) at Davison High School Auditorium at 1250 N. Oak Rd. in Davison. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the performance is 6-9 p.m. As in years past, the event will feature silent auctions and Chinese raffle items and a 50/50 raffle.

Gary Burns is the heart and soul of the Rock & Roll Project sponsored by Young Musicians Community (YMC), a local non-profit organization that helps kids learn to perform in a band and develop their artistic skills, at no cost to the students.

“This very dynamic and talented band always surprises crowds with their versatility and range in the variety of musical gifts they bring to their audiences,” said Burns of youth-led 3rd Degree Burns.

Today, membership in the musical group is not only about learning to play great rock and roll, it is a model for young adults to learn acceptance and develop leadership skills. “Acceptance, through God’s gift of music, to break down every social barrier including race, gender, age, handicap and income,” Burns said. Band members leave the program with leadership skills, to stand up against those social barriers and to accept each other for the great qualities that each of them possess.

The 12th Annual show in Davison on Saturday supports the musical efforts of the YMC and 3rd Degree Burns. “The event is crucial to providing the funds needed so each of these kids can continue moving forward in their commitment to music, while acquiring the wonderful feeling when giving back to one’s community,” said Burns. And if a person cannot attend the Saturday show, he or she can still donate. Donations to YMC are tax deductible.

Donations can also be directed toward www.y-m-c.org, the organization’s website, featuring a donation button on the homepage.

All monies from this fundraiser and accompanying donations go to funding of scholarships for the students, concert performances, new equipment, instrument repairs, transportation and advertising supplies. “All essential items needed to keep our kids learning for free and performing for fundraisers and other great events,” Burns said. Donations are accepted at the fundraiser and also at any time during the year. For more information or to donate, visit www.y-m-c.org or call Burns at 810-441- 6672.
