Family Literacy Center offers volunteer tutor training sessions

LAPEER — On Tuesday, Feb. 26, Tuesday, the Family Literacy Center in Lapeer is offering a free volunteer tutor training session for people who wish to help those in the Lapeer County community to improve their reading skills. Tutor training sessions will occur Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

LCS kindergarten round-up is March 19-20

LAPEER — Lapeer Community Schools (LCS) will hold its kindergarten round-up Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19-20, from 1-7 p.m. both days at the LCS Administration & Services Center, 250 Second St. in Lapeer. Round-up is for traditional and year-round schooling.

Kindergarten round-up is for all children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019. The program will be full day, five days per week.

Parents will need to bring their child’s original birth certificate, their certified immunization record, two proofs of residency and emergency contact names and phone numbers.

Almont Schools offer begindergarten, round-up and learning fair March 11

ALMONT — Kindergarten and begindergarten registration for the 2019-20 school year will begin on March 11 in the Orchard Primary School Office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The district will also register students at the Kindergarten Learning Fair the evening from 5-7 p.m.

Eligible students may be enrolled by a parent or legal guardian and must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2019 (or not later than Dec. 1 with an approved waiver).

Parents are asked to bring their child’s original birth certificate, immunization record, and proof of residency to registration.

3-D printer class offered at Lapeer District Library

LAPEER — The Marguerite deAngeli Branch Library in Lapeer will hold a twopart 3-D printing class for teens and adults.

The first session will take place Thursday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. at the deAngeli Branch Library. During this session, participants will learn how to design a 3-D digital model on the website, Tinkercad. The second session will take place Thursday, March 28 at 5 p.m. and participants will be able to see their creation come to life and learn all about how the 3-D printer works.
