Bishop Kelley to celebrate Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 28-Feb. 1

LAPEER — Students and staff at Bishop Kelley Catholic School in Lapeer are gearing up to celebrate Catholic Schools Week, slated for the week of Monday, Jan. 28. The annual week of celebration, highlighting Catholic education nationwide, will feature a number of activities, events and acts of service in the community.

“This is special time for our community when we get to focus on the value Catholic education provides to our young people and their faith formation,” said Bishop Kelley Principal Gar Willoughby.

Kicking off Catholic Schools Week, Bishop Kelley students will be partnering once again with the Knights of Columbus to help supply the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry. Students will be passing out decorated paper grocery-bags after Mass on Jan. 26-27.

Following the kickoff on Jan. 26, students and staff at Bishop Kelley will be participating in a whirlwind of special events throughout the week. First, on Monday, Jan. 28, students will donate toilet paper for the school’s January “Blessing in a Box,” and on Tuesday, students will produce arts and crafts projects to be delivered to the community’s senior citizens.

On Wednesday, Bishop Kelley students will be making “Thank You” cards for community EMS heroes, and on Thursday, they’ll be starting inter-class “Penny Wars.”

To round out the week on Friday (Feb. 1), students will collect “gently used books” for the Family Literacy Center in Lapeer while reading with buddies from other classes.
