Genesee Valley Concert Band to perform Thursday

LAPEER — The Summer Concert Series in downtown Lapeer continues Thursday (July 5) evening with a performance by the Genesee Valley Concert Band from 6:30-8 p.m. The concerts are held at the farmer’s market pavilion.

July 12: Exit 155 (Blues, classic rock)

July 19: Sheila Landis & Rick Matle (Jazz)

The concert series is sponsored by the Lapeer Downtown Development Authority.

Can, bottle return benefit to raise money for Lapeer Lightning robotics

LAPEER — The Lapeer Lightning Robotics program will hold a can and bottle return fundraiser on Saturday (June 7) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lapeer Center for Innovation (Lapeer West), 170 Millville Rd. Proceeds will go toward covering the costs of upcoming events and competitions.

Robot demonstrations will be held during the benefit event.

Tornado sirens to be tested Saturday afternoon

LAPEER COUNTY — June 7 is the first Saturday of the month, and that means at 1 p.m. tornado sirens across the county will be tested for three minutes.

In the event of inclement weather at the time, the test will be canceled. Warning sirens are most effective for those outside of buildings. Emergency response officials encourage county residents to have a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration All Hazard Weather Radio in their home and/or business. Residents can also download a free American Red Cross tornado app.

Imlay City pool open seven days a week during summer

IMLAY CITY — A great place to cool off this summer is the Alvin Norlin Memorial Pool in Imlay City located next to the city’s water tower off Third Street. The pool is open seven days a week.

Open swims are offered from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. seven days a week, while on Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to noon. Swim lessons are offered Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Water aerobics are offered from 6-7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Swim classes consist of eight lessons. Enrollment is open any time the pool is open, accepted at the pool’s front desk. Class size is limited; sign up early to be assured of space for your child.

Pool prices: $3.50 per person afternoons; $2.50 per person evenings and Saturday mornings. Cost for children ages 3 and under as well as senior citizens and veterans is $1.

Children under 11 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adults (or babysitter 16 years old or older).
