Student artwork on display at Gallery 194 until Saturday

LAPEER — The work of Lapeer County’s best student artists is on display as The Center for the Arts presents the 2018 High School Art Show in Gallery 194. Artwork can be seen until Saturday, April 14. The Gallery is open this week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This show features the artwork of students in grades 9-12 attending Lapeer Community Schools, Almont High School, North Branch High School, and Imlay City High School.

Red Cross to hold blood drives during April

LAPEER COUNTY — The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors in Lapeer County to give blood during National Volunteer Month this April.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities:

April 16: From 1-6:45 p.m. at the Almont Lions Hall, 222 Water St.;

April 17: From 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Lapeer County Community Mental Health, 1570 Suncrest Dr. in Mayfield Township;

April 17: From 1-6:45 p.m. at Mayfield Elementary School, 302 Plum Creek in Mayfield Township;

April 19: From 2-6:45 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1310 N. Main St. in Lapeer;

April 20: From 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Lakestone Bank & Trust, 1175 S. Main St. in Lapeer;

April 22: From 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Bishop Kelley Catholic School, 926 W. Nepessing in Lapeer;

April 26: From 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Goodrich High School, 8029 S. Gale Rd. in Goodrich;

April 30: From noon to 5:45 p.m. at St. Cornelius Church, 3824 N. Mill St. in Dryden.

Make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800- 733-2767). All those who come to donate until May 13 will be entered to win one of three $1,000 gift cards to a national home improvement retailer, courtesy of Suburban Propane.

Cemetery preservation workshop on May 19

ARCADIA TWP. — Area residents are invited to join the Lapeer County Genealogical Society and Mark Morton of Gravestone Guardians of Ohio for their 6th Annual Cemetery Preservation Workshop to be held May 19 at the Arcadia Township Cemetery on Lum Road.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather allowing. The workshop will include a day of hands-on instruction.

The non-refundable cost for the workshop is $40 if registered before May 5; after May 5 the fee increases to $45. Reservations and fee payment are required for the workshop. For more information, call Mary Bentley at 810-441-1500 or email at bmbentley66@gmail.com.
