Soup Cook Off on Saturday to support Southern Links Trailway

COLUMBIAVILLE — As spring weather brings seasonal rains, nothing is better than a good bowl of soup. On Saturday, March 10, the Friends of the Southern Links Trailway are inviting the public to their ninth annual Soup Cook Off, hosted at the Columbiaville United Methodist Church at 4696 Pine Street from 5-7 p.m.

The public is invited to visit and taste each of the soups crafted by area chefs, then vote for their favorite. All soup will be prepared on site at the Columbiaville United Methodist Church’s certified kitchen. The chef who wins first-place honors for their soup will receive $100 for their efforts, while second place receives $50.

Proceeds from the event will go to maintain the Southern Links Trailway. “It’s our major fundraiser of the year for the Friends of the Southern Links Trailway. It’s the main one that we do for the trail,” said Marathon Township Clerk and Friends Group Secretary Dawn Johnson. “It’s a goodwill offering, so it’s whatever people want to give.”

According to Johnson, the community looks forward each year to the annual soup cook off. “You come in and taste all of the soups and vote on whichever one is your favorite,” she said. In addition to soups, desserts and corn bread will be offered. A silent auction will also be held, with all proceeds going to maintaining the trail.

The Southern Links Trailway is a 10.2-mile-long, paved trailway that links Columbiaville, Otter Lake and Millington, used for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The non-motorized trail winds through open fields, wetlands, wooded forests and farmlands.
