Motown tribute band The Prolifics to perform Saturday at The PIX

LAPEER — On Saturday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m., the PIX Theatre stage will be home to the sounds of Motown.

The Prolifics, a Motown tribute band, have been performing for more than 30 years. Over the years they have become known for their vocal harmonies, timed choreography, and high energy. They proudly represent a composite of the groups that inspired the legacy of Motown and the Sounds of Philadelphia. Their repertoire of music includes songs by The Temptations, The Dells, The Four Tops, The Spinners, The O’Jays, The Jackson Five, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, The Stylistics, The Contours, The Drifters, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Barry White and many more.

Their story begins as so many others — five adolescent young men singing a cappella on the street corners of Detroit. Group members include Gary Guinn, first tenor; Ed Brown, bass; Thomas Walker, high baritone; Stanley Greer, low baritone and Rick Littleton, second tenor. In addition to this, all five take turns singing the lead part. These men have literally known each other since they were kids, and they began singing just for the fun of it.

It was a slow process as they began to perform professionally and become known in the Detroit music circle. They have gone on to win awards, including a 2010 Detroit Black Music Award for Best Male Vocal Group. They have enjoyed a long running job performing on the Detroit Princess, a reconditioned boat that was once a gambling venue on the Mississippi River. Along with paying gigs, these men also donate their time to a variety of charitable organizations with the goal of giving back to their community, performing at fundraising galas and events.

The Prolifics have released a fulllength CD of their original music, and their repertoire includes just about every classic Motown hit from the 60s and 70s.
