LAPEER — Stone’s Throw Theater (STT) will be performing a Taffeta Christmas, 1950s-era holiday musical filled with pop and Christmas classics, at Beyer’s Furniture in downtown Lapeer, 441 W. Nepessing.

A Taffeta Christmas is a limited engagement of only four performances with 50 seats each, Friday, Dec. 8, Saturday, Dec. 9, Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday Dec. 16 with all shows starting at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors, students and military. Door sales begin one hour prior to showtime.

The musical is meant to bring back the way a hometown Christmas used to be, said STT founder Tony Stroh. “This is a tribute to the girl groups of the 50’s featuring four down-home girls from Indiana and they’re here to celebrate the holidays in style, on TV no less.”

A Taffeta Christmas tells the tale of Christmas in Muncie, Indiana, and The Dumont Television Network is featuring the bright-eyed and bubbly 1950s girl group The Taffetas on its weekly show Hometown Hoedown. Dishing out a collection of favorites from the original Off-Broadway hit The Taffetas, effervescent new songs, and seasonal classics, A Taffeta Christmas is a twinkling hometown holiday the way it used to be.

The unconventional performance space fits with Stone’s Throw Theater’s mission to make use of vacant storefronts and unique environments for productions. This space is being made available through the generous support of Beyer’s Furniture, and other sponsors for this production include Aspen Creek Studios, Jocuns Law Offices, the Lapeer Downtown Development Authority, Lakestone Bank & Trust, Woodchips BBQ and media sponsor The County Press.

Stone’s Throw Theater is the result of decades of experience in theater and the performing arts. For more than 30 years, Stroh has managed nonprofit and for-profit arts organizations across the United States as well as producing shows internationally for theme parks and cruise ships. Along with Stroh, other team members of Stone’s Throw Theater include Head of Musical Theatre at Oakland University Fred Love, who will serve in the capacity of director for upcoming shows and a still-forming board of directors that will include members involved with Lapeer’s cultural arts, education, business or non-profit scenes.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Stone’s Throw Theater Box Office at 810-660-7805 or online at www.stonesthrowtheater.org. A Taffeta Christmas is presented through special arrangement with Select Entertainment LLC.
