MARY GERTRUDE SCHROEDER, 80, a lifetime Lapeer resident, died Thursday, August 31, 2017.

Mary was born June 7, 1937, in Lapeer, to Leo and Audrey (Lamphere) Evans. She graduated from Lapeer High School in 1955. Mary worked in the upholstery area at Sea Ray Boats for many years, more recently she worked at the Meijer Store here in Lapeer. Mrs. Schroeder loved to play cards!

Mary is survived by her children, Gerald (Beth) Schroeder of Bay City, JoAnne (Mark) Witucki of Metamora and John (Kim) Schroeder of Lapeer; grandchildren, Sydney Schroeder of Belleville and Holly Schroeder of Lapeer; sister, Barb (Pat) Sweeney of Hadley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Evans; mother, Audrey Hill; son, Andrew Schroeder; sister, Charlotte Bannon; and brother, Bob Evans.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Mary’s memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017, at the Metamora Lions Club, 3790 N. Oak St., Metamora, MI 48455. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. The funeral luncheon will follow immediately after the memorial service at 2 p.m. Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer.

JOHN W. GABBARD, JR., “JUNIOR”, 57, of Dryden, died suddenly Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Hurley Medical Center of Flint.

John Wesley Gabbard, Jr., was born August 15, 1960 in Lapeer. He is the son of the late John Wesley and Sarah (Sokolik) Gabbard. Junior was a graduate of the Class of 1978 of Imlay City High School. He married Juli Lynne Hamlin on June 22, 1979 at Lapeer. Junior and Juli have lived in Dryden for the last 30 years.

Junior has been employed by General Motors - Flint Metal Fab as a manager in the shipping department for the last 8 years. Before that, he worked for General Motors - Pontiac Metal Fab in the shipping department for 30 years and at G.M. Truck and Bus.

Junior enjoyed watching NASCAR races and working on his own cars, especially his 1968 Oldsmobile “442”.

He is survived by his wife, Juli Lynne (Hamlin) Gabbard; his daughter, Carrie Gabbard of Hadley; his son, Bud Gabbard of Lake Orion; his mother, Sarah (Sokolik) Gabbard of Imlay City; three brothers, Ronald Gabbard of Flint, Donald (Lori) Gabbard of Tennessee and Thomas (Jessica) Gabbard of Imlay City. Junior is also survived by two grandchildren, Madison Sills and Trenton Sills.

Junior was preceded in death by his father, John W. Gabbard, Sr.

The funeral was held Wednesday, September 6 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City. Burial followed in the Burnside Township Cemetery, Brown City.
