Jim Riehl’s Friendly to host Ride & Drive fundraiser for Lapeer Boosters

LAPEER — Jim Riehl’s Friendly Automotive Group will team up with the Lapeer community for a Ride & Drive event to benefit the Lapeer Lightning High School Athletic Boosters Club at the LCS Athletic Complex (former Lapeer West campus) on Friday, Sept. 8 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The event will take place before the Lightning varsity football team’s home game against Bay City Western that evening.

For each person who takes a short test drive, FCA US will donate $20 to the booster club, up to $3,000. Jim Riehl’s Friendly Chrysler will provide the vehicles and their staff will be on hand to assist with the fundraising test drives. All funds raised during the Ride & Drive event will go directly to the Lapeer Lightning High School Booster Club. Funds raised by or donated to the booster club support Lapeer Community Schools’ student athletes by funding equipment needs and other sports-related expenses not covered by the school district.

‘Waterfalls of Michigan’ program to be presented Thursday at Hadley hall

HADLEY TWP. — Swartz Creek’s Len Thomas photographer will present “The Waterfalls of Michigan” at 7 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 7) at the Hadley Township Hall, 4293 Pratt Rd. Society President Kent Copeman said Thomas has spent years crisscrossing the state capturing images of its waterfalls.

Many of the waterfalls are located in the Upper Peninsula and some are only accessible after lengthy hikes.

Genealogical society on Sept. 12 to offer tour of Attica Twp. Museum

ATTICA — Janet O’ Donnell, long time Attica Township resident, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 will conduct a tour of the township’s museum for members and guests of the Lapeer County Genealogical Society. This museum, although not large, is packed with artifacts from Attica Township’s history.

The museum is located behind the Attica Township Hall at 4350 Peppermill Rd. in Attica.

Goodland Township Library to host Finnish folk group

GOODLAND TWP. — The Goodland Township Library will welcome the Finnish folk group, Vellamo, on Saturday, Sept. 16 at noon. They will perform a variety of music that will sure to have the audience dancing.

This event will be held at the Goodland Township Hall, 2374 N. Van Dyke. It is a free event and open to everyone.

Vellamo are from Finland and will be touring Michigan in September. Their music can be seen on YouTube and on Amazon. Registration is required for this event.
