Free strawberry shortcake to be served at market

LAPEER — Free strawberry shortcake will be served Saturday, June 17 to visitors at the Historic Farmers Market of Lapeer’s Annual Strawberry Festival/Farm Day, starting at 10 am, while supplies last. The farmers market is held on Nepessing Street in downtown Lapeer.

The Lapeer County Historical Society will be there with antique farm equipment displays.

Register now for 4-H summer camps

LAPEER TWP. — Lapeer County 4-H Summer Camp 2017 registrations are being accepted until June 26. Summer camp programs are for kids ages 5-12 at Camp Lael. Theme for camp this summer is “Superhero.”

Day camp is July 10-11 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overnight camp is from 6 p.m. July 12 through 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15.

Counselors sought for 4-H camp this summer

LAPEER TWP. — Registration for Lapeer County 4-H Summer Camp 2017 have begun, but it’s not too late to get in on the fun and be an important part of this amazing opportunity.

Organizers still need camp counselors or adult chaperones. Teens age 15 and older and young adults who enjoy working with kids, love the outdoors and thinking of a career with youth, this is a fantastic opportunity. Organizers are looking for persons who can be part of the camp staff for kids ages 8-12 at the overnight camp to be held July 12-15 at Camp Lael.

Although the role of camp counselor is a volunteer role, it is great for community service, job resumes, and leadership opportunities. For more information, contact Jean Kreiner at the Michigan State University Extension Office at 810-667- 0343.

Tea Party welcomes public to July 11 meeting

MAYFIELD TWP. — The Lapeer County Tea Party invites the public to its monthly meeting. The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11 at the Mayfield Township hall on Saginaw Street. Guest speaker will be Rep. Tom Leonard, Speaker of the Michigan House. Other elected political members, or their representatives, will also be in attendance. The officials will offer updates on what is going on in their areas of the government.
