Dryden DDA to host community wide garage sale this week

DRYDEN — Sponsored by the Dryden Downtown Development Authority, the 7th annual Dryden Community Garage Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18-20.

Maps are available in the village office and at downtown Dryden businesses.

DuPont-Lapeer Airport to host pancake breakfast, plane rides on Saturday

MAYFIELD TWP. — The DuPont-Lapeer Airport Pancake Breakfast is scheduled to take place this Saturday, May 20.

The event costs $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 5-10, and free for those under 5.

Airplane rides will be available, along with information about flight training and a police helicopter display, along with others.

There also will be a silent auction. Proceeds will be used to help send a local youngster to the EAA Air Academy Camp.

The breakfast is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the airport, 1232 Roods Lake Rd. in Mayfield Township. More information may be obtained by calling 810-664-6966.

Stuffed pork loin dinner today at Center Building

LAPEER — A stuffed pork loin dinner will be served to the public Thursday, May 18 at the Lapper Center Building from 4-6:30 p.m. Adult tickets will be $10 with kids 12 & under $5 (under 3 are free). Dinner includes dessert. Eat in or take out. Recorded music, door prizes and a 50-50 raffle at the event. This fundraiser again is to obtain funds to pay for building improvement projects.

Inaugural Lapeer chili cookoff on June 3

LAPEER — During the culmination of the monthlong Art on Nepessing Street 2017, the public — especially chili fans — are invited to downtown Lapeer’s first annual chili cookoff.

The competition will be on Saturday, June 3 in the Court Street stage area next to Gallery 194. Judges, cooks and hungry chili fans are needed. Judging begins promptly at noon on June 3 with a $5 admission fee.

Participants are required to provide a heat source for cooking, and all food items must be obtained from an approved source. Receipt of purchase must be present at time of entry 9 a.m. on June 3. All food items must be cooked on site. No home canned goods, or pre-prepared meat will be allowed.
