Spring Expo on Sunday at CFI in Lapeer
LAPEER — After the success of the Lapeer Community Spring Expo throughout the past three years, the Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing the event back this weekend. This Sunday, April 23, will mark the fourth anniversary of the Expo, and is again set to take place at the Center for Innovation-West Campus, which is the former location of Lapeer West High School, at 170 Millville Rd. in Lapeer.
The Spring Expo will continue to offer many of the free activities enjoyed by attendees at the last three events. Visitors can choose between airbrushed face painting or tattoos, designed by Kim’s Fun Faces, or guests can have their caricature drawn by Freddy K. Demonstrations, performances and a variety of different routines will abound, each of which will be presented by a vast number of Lapeer’s talented individuals and performers.
Ronald McDonald will be in attendance all day, livening up the already exciting Expo and offering photo opportunities throughout the afternoon. Korean Martial Arts Institute will be offering an in-depth self-defense demonstration this year, rather than just the karate demonstration they’ve offered in years past. This will give visitors a chance to get a real hands-on experience in the art of protecting themselves, taught by experienced and knowledgeable martial artists.
Lapeer County EMS will also be at the Expo, complete with a crew and one of their emergency vehicles, and will be doing CPR simulation and offering comprehensive and valuable first aid tips and advice. The Army is set to bring a static display, featuring two army vehicles, including a Hummer and a cargo truck that will be on display at the Expo for both kids and adults to explore. The Army’s Recruiting Office, based in Lapeer, will bring a number of representatives that will explain in detail how the vehicles’ sophisticated technological equipment functions.
The Army vehicles, along with a number of Lapeer Fire & Rescue fire trucks will be on display outside, and will be accompanied by the department’s mascot, Sparky. Utilizing interactive technology, which allows him to see and talk with visitors, Sparky is always a huge hit with children at the Spring Expo.
“There will be entertainment during the day including, Korean Martial Arts Institute, local dance company performances, and school and community groups,” said Neda Payne, the executive director of the Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce. “And we are lining up some surprise guests this year that the kids will love!”
Lapeer Community Schools (LCS), a partner in the annual event, will be available to provide attendees with plenty of prizes and information. The current partnership between the Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce and LCS was developed through a mutual desire to increase youth involvement in community activities and to create job opportunities for high schoolers and residents alike. Susan Wilmers, director of District Transition Services for LCS, explained that the relationship between the Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce and LCS has flourished over the past three years.
Participating vendors will be entered to win a Media Advertising Package valued at $2,000. The package is sponsored by View Newspaper Group, Town Square Media, and ABC 12. Visitors will also be eligible to win a number of door prizes, drawings and concessions.
Sid Payne, “We’re having a drawing for visitors to win a Family Four Pack for the Lapeer Days festival, which comes with four T-shirts and four oneday armbands for the annual downtown carnival, set for Aug. 18-20 this summer.”
The fourth annual Lapeer Community Spring Expo is Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Center for Innovation-West Campus.
