Marguerite deAngeli to host memoir writing workshop May 9
LAPEER — The Marguerite deAngeli Branch of the Lapeer District Library, welcomes Your Personal Memoir, LLC — a metro Detroit-based memoir writing company — to present a free “How to Write Your Memoir” workshop at 6 p.m. May 9.
This workshop explains the value of preserving family stories, how to get started on a memoir, interviewing techniques and how to publish your work. Participants will practice writing and come away inspired to record their stories to be enjoyed for generations to come.
Your Personal Memoir is owned by Gigi VanderWeele and Susan Carroll. VanderWeele has been writing people’s stories for more than 20 years as a journalist (under the name of Jennifer Bott) for the Detroit Free Press, The Oakland Press, The Alpena News and other publications. Her engaging interviewing style provides a relaxing environment for clients to share favorite memories, life lessons and tales for generations to come. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University and a reputation as a strong writer, reporter and interviewer.
Carroll became passionate about personal history after transcribing, editing and compiling the memoir of her grandfather. She treasures the words and sounds of his voice now many years after his death. She is also an experienced genealogical researcher, specializing in Scottish and English genealogy, and has a bachelor’s degree in Economics/Management and French from Albion College and a master’s degree in Labor and Human Resources from Michigan State University. She has extensive corporate training, writing and interviewing experience.
