BILLIE BATES, 69, of North Branch, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015, at his home. Billie was born October 12, 1945, in Flint, to Billy and Alice (Middleton) Bates. Billie grew up in Flint and attended Kearsley High School. Billie married Darlena Olmstead on August 8, 1964 in Flint. Billie was a car hauler for Boutell/Complete Auto-transit and was an Amish transporter for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cars, motorcycles, tractors, and all animals especially draft horses.

Billie is survived by his loving wife, Darlena; children, Jodie (Brent) Miller and Billie (Tammy) Bates, both of North Branch; grandchildren, Luke, Logan and Lawson Rutledge, Katie (Fricke) Richardson, Dalton (Salena) Bates and Dylan Bates; two great-grandchildren, Tucker Bates and Raidyn Richardson; sister, Darlene (Rick) Whitis of North Branch; brother, Jim (Sharon) Bates of North Branch; many special nephews and nieces, including Eric Olmstead, Michelle (Olmstead) Haight, Jennifer Olmstead, their children, along with many great lifelong friends.

Billie was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Cody Olmstead.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family discretionary fund.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Blackburn Chapel- Martin Funeral Home, with Pastor Ron Kersten officiating. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery in North Branch.
