Lapeer Farmers’ Market to open downtown in early May
LAPEER — The Lapeer Farmers’ Market will open for its 26th season in early May along Nepessing Street in downtown Lapeer. Market hours will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday through the end of October.
“It’s going to be a great market. Vendors are welcome and we look forward to continuing a long-time tradition that is important to downtown Lapeer,” said Jeanne McCorkle, DBA president.
The Lapeer Farmers’ Market is an event of the Downtown Business Association (DMA). The DBA is working to fill the market manager position. Qualified candidates can send resumes to: Downtown Business Association, PO Box 1235, Lapeer, MI 48446.
The market manager is a part-time seasonal position (approximately 20-25 hours) per week that oversees the weekly Wednesday and Saturday market and provides all administrative functions to ensure a successful and vibrant market downtown.
The market manager also oversees promotions, programming, demonstrations, education and community outreach programs, and special events related to the market. Primary direction and supervision is received from the DBA Farmers Market Committee.
The manager reports to DBA president,
Jeanne McCorkle. The individual is responsible to supervise market volunteers and any workers.
The DBA has completed an application with the State of Michigan to participate in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) through the Michigan Bridge Card program. The Lapeer Farmers’ Market should be on track to accept this this program in mid to late May.
“The DBA believes that the Farmers’ Market is an important mainstay four our local farmers, community and economy. The DBA is committed to providing locally-grown foods and made-in-Michigan products.
