Easter egg hunts for children this weekend

By Jacob Hunsanger

LAPEER COUNTY — They are small, colorful, filled with goodies and this weekend they are going to be hidden all over Lapeer County. That’s right, it’s time for the annual Easter egg hunts to the delight of children around Lapeer County.

Multiple Easter egg hunts are planned at several locations, with none bigger than the annual Easter egg hunt on the historic courthouse lawn in downtown Lapeer, sponsored by Lapeer Community Church.

The free annual Easter egg hunt will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday on the courthouse lawn with different age groups hunting for eggs, candy and other goodies on the lawn at separate times. According to the church, there will once again be 20,000 plastic eggs filled with treats for children to collect, along with large inflatables, refreshments, entertainment, games and more following the egg hunt.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4139 in Mayfield Township is also hosting a free Easter egg hunt event on Sunday for all children through age 12. Registration for the event will begin at 10 a.m., when the kids will be divided into age groups, and then the hunt itself will begin at 11 a.m.

Along with being able to hunt through the VFW Post’s grounds for hidden eggs filled with candy and goodies, children will also be given a free lunch consisting of a hot dog, chips and punch. Lunch for adults will cost $1.50 per meal.

Families should bring their own basket for kids to collect eggs in, as well as a camera to capture the fun moments. There will be “a lot” of eggs for kids to find, according to the VFW Post.

The VFW Post 4139 is located at 128 Daley Rd., Mayfield Township.
