Lapeer Art Association auction fundraiser Saturday
LAPEER — The Lapeer Art Association (LAA) has for decades been providing Lapeer County with beautiful artwork, and giving local artists a place to fit in, work and showcase their artwork for all to see. This weekend, a fundraiser auction will give local residents a chance to support LAA and give back to local artists.
Lapeer Art Association is holding a silent auction fundraiser on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer.
For over 30 years LAA has held a commitment to enhancing the cultural life of the Lapeer community. Through their gallery exhibits, participation in community events such as Lapeer Days, the Farmers’ Market, Box City and holding art fairs and sales, the LAA is a primary connection to applied fine arts in this community.
LAA members’ artwork is regularly displayed throughout the year in the upper section at Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer, with full gallery shows each year as well. The members’ artwork is always as skillfully done as it is varied in medium and subject. Everything from painting and photography to sculpture, glasswork and textiles made by local artists have been featured through LAA.
Saturday’s auction for the Lapeer Art Association promises to be a great community event, according to LAA. There will be a variety of art donated by LAA members, many of whom are known both nationally and internationally for their work, to be auctioned off. Visitors to the event will see jewelry, pottery, acrylics, watercolors, photography, sculpture and more.
Bidding will go from 5 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. with all the winners being announced at 7 p.m.
Also planned for the evening are special artists’ demonstrations. Attendees will be able to watch artists create original works of art throughout the evening, and then have a chance to win those brand new creations in a special raffle at the end of the evening.
To complete the evening, the Lapeer Art Association will provide the guests with free culinary treats provided by the artists themselves.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to come see what talented local artists we have right here in Lapeer and they will be able to support local arts and culture along the way,” LAA vice president Judy Sweet said.
Funds raised from the auction will allow the Lapeer Art Association to maintain their goal of growing the arts, encouraging and helping new artists, bringing artists together, promoting the fine arts, and providing opportunities in the community to be involved in the arts.
In an effort to support and serve local artists, the LAA encourages and welcomes all artists, both amateur and professional, in all areas of fine arts and crafts.
The Lapeer Art Association is located inside Gallery 194 at the corner of Court and West Nepessing Streets in downtown Lapeer next to the historic PIX Theatre. Gallery 194 is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is always free.
