Library celebrates anniversary of music appreciation
LAPEER — The Marguerite deAngeli Branch of the Lapeer District Library is pleased to announce the one year anniversary of its monthly classical music appreciation series that began September 5, 2012.
“Fabs” Kaldobsky, a music aficionado, presents recorded classics and leads a discussion about the composers, instruments, and musical styles of the music being played. This enlightening session of classical music takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m.
All are welcome, and each program runs about 90 minutes. In honor of the anniversary, special refreshments will be provided at the Sept. 4 session.
“Fabs is a wealth of knowledge, and he has developed quite a regular following for his wonderful programs. We are very lucky and grateful to have him at our library,” said Laura Fromwiller, reference department head.
Fabs was born in Vilnius (now Lithuania). He came to the United States in 1950 after serving for the British Army in the Middle East in World War II as well as the Israel Air Force in the Independence War. He holds degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Industrial Management. His professional career includes service with Chrysler, Ford and General Electric companies and with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
In 1970 he accepted an appointment with the United Nations and held assignments in Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia and Romania as an industrial development expert. Fabs is a world traveler and is fluent in several languages.
He has had a life-long love of classical music, volunteering to share his knowledge with Michigan library patrons since 1992.
