Lapeer Ukulele Group meets at River Street
LAPEER — The Lapeer Area Ukulele Group will meet again on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at River Street Music & Cafe in downtown Lapeer. Besides having lots of fun strumming on the ukes, the top item on the group’s agenda is picking an official name.
Ukulele groups often have clever acronym names, organizer Dan Smith explained to the Lapeer Area View. For instance, the Lansing area uke group is known as L.A.U.G.H. (Lansing Area Ukulele Group).
So far, the Lapeer group has had several good suggestions to discuss at the Saturday meeting. Those include S.O.U.L. (Sounds of Ukulele in Lapeer), L.U.G. Nuts (Lapeer Ukulele Group), L.U.S.H. (Lapeer Ukulele Stummers) and Exit 155.
Whatever they end up calling themselves, the Lapeer ukulele group is for everyone and anyone with an interest in playing the ukulele. The group’s first meeting had a great turnout, with a couple dozen area residents of all ages showing up.
The group is open to beginners — and even those who are just thinking about starting to play the instrument — to ukulele veterans who have been playing for years. Smith said there will even be a few extra ukuleles on hand Saturday for anyone who is interested but doesn’t own one themselves.
River Street Music & Cafe is located at 454 W. Nepessing Street in downtown Lapeer. For more information about the uke group meeting, call River Street at 810-667-9300.
