Cinco de Mayo festival set
IMLAY CITY — Downtown businesses are inviting people to a celebration of Hispanic culture from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday as the Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Authority and the Hispanic Service Center join forces for the second annual Cinco de Mayo festival.
Dana Walker, the chambers executive director, said organizers have put together a long list of family-friendly activies ranging from a cutest Chihuahua contest and a hot salsa eating competition to a Mariacha band and Mexican dancers.
Imlay City visitors will have a chance to win up to $30 in Chamber Bucks to be used at participating Chamber member businesses by completing Business Loteria (Mexican Bingo) Card. Walker said people will have an opportunity to win prizes and discover downtown Imlay City by collecting historic Mexican images and symbols. Downtown restaurants will offer Cinco de Mayo food and drink specials during the festival weekend.
