LAPEER COUNTY — Monday is April 1, and that means it’s time once again for April Fools’ Day.
Every year the first day of April is set aside as a day of whimsical mischief, and many people enjoy playing harmless pranks, jokes and hoaxes on their loved ones in honor of April Fools’ Day.
Don’t forget to honor April Fools’ Day by playing a hoax or a practical joke on a friend or family member, but make sure it’s nothing too bad. And try not to get fooled yourself by a prank or a joke.
Watch for bikes, runners as weather warms up
LAPEER COUNTY — As winter ends and the warm weather returns, there is going to be a lot more traffic on county roads that drivers should look out for. That traffic will include motorcycles, bicycles and runners out for a casual stroll or trying to get into shape.
Drivers should be on the lookout for any traffic on the road, especially early in the morning or late in the evening when the light begins to fade.
Slow down and be safe, and keep enjoying the beginning of spring.
Ace of Hearts jackpot grows to more than 10K
LAPEER — The Lapeer Elks’ progressive jackpot game, the Ace of Hearts, is still going on every Monday night at Louie’s Sports Tavern in Lapeer — and the jackpot just keeps growing.
Tickets for the game are on sale through the Elks club and at Louie’s Sports Tavern until 8 p.m. Monday night. The game gives local residents a chance to win a growing jackpot while simultaneously helping the local community by raising funds for the Lapeer Elks.
The jackpot this Monday will be getting closer to $10,000.
The Ace of Hearts is held every Monday night at Louie’s, located on Davison Road with the Polar Palace. At 8:30 p.m. every Monday the Elks draw one ticket out of a bowl and that ticket holder has the chance to pick from one playing card in a deck of cards. Whoever finds the Ace of Hearts card immediately wins the jackpot, which grows each week along with ticket sales.
Tickets cost $1 each and are available at Louie’s and the Lapeer Elks Lodge on East Nepessing St. in downtown Lapeer. Ticket sales end each week at 8 p.m. sharp. Cash prizes are also available for finding other special cards.
