LAPEER — Santa Claus is coming to town — and starting tomorrow local children will have opportunities all month long to meet old Saint Nick and tell him what they want for Christmas, or simply get a photo taken with him and Mrs. Claus.
Santa’s House in downtown Lapeer will open for the first time of the season on Friday during the start of Lapeer’s annual Winterfest. A ribbon cutting will be held at 4:45 p.m. to commemorate the 21-year-old building’s renovations, and after Santa cuts the ribbon himself he will start meeting will local children.
On Saturday, Santa will bring up the rear of the Christmas Parade at 11 a.m., and following the parade he will again meet with local children in the small red house in front of the Farmers’ Market Pavilion until all the children in line have had a chance to meet him.
Santa’s House will be open throughout the month of December. On Mondays (Dec. 3, 10 and 17) Santa’s House will be open from 5-7 p.m. This Friday, hours are 5-8 p.m. during the Winterfest celebration. Normal hours on Fridays (Dec. 7, 14 and 21) will be 5-7 p.m. Santa’s House will be open on Saturdays (Dec. 8, 15 and 22) from noon to 2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.
On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, Santa’s House will be open from noon to 3 p.m., giving local children one last chance to meet with Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas before he begins delivering presents to children everywhere.
Photos with Santa Claus are available for $5, or families may bring their own camera and take photos with Santa at no charge.
