New theme picked for Lapeer Days parade

LAPEER — Earlier in the year, the Lapeer Days Festival committee announced the annual festival’s parade theme would be “Past, Present, Future.” In a recent meeting it was brought up to the committee that many of our regular parade participants, local businesses and Chamber member businesses struggled as to what to do for the “Present and Future” aspect of the theme.

“So, you spoke and we listened,” said the festival committee. Because the festival is a summer celebration, the committee members asked what what one thing is that everyone does sooner or later in the summer — going to the beach.

So they are pleased to announce a festival friendly parade theme: “Lapeer Days Beach Party.”

“We coined the original theme after learning that one of the largest parade entries this year will be about 25-30 past Ms. Lapeer Days pageant winners,” said the festival committee. “So we thought with the past Ms. Lapeer Days and the Present ones it would be a fitting theme. But when our parade director was having difficulty coming up with Present and Future themed decorations for main stage we began to realize that maybe the theme was, in theory, easier to work with than in reality.”

It’s time to get together and make design plans for that float entry. Lapeer Days Beach Party offers many options to choose from. Get your creative juices flowing and join the largest parade in the county with your entry. Parade goers and festival fans will be lining Nepessing Street in anticipation of another great festival parade. The parade entries do not have to follow the theme. All entries will be judged on creativity, visual impact and relevance to the parade theme.
