GIRLS BASKETBALL

Almont: Cros-Lex hosted the Lady Raiders on Tuesday for a Blue Water Area Conference contest and slowly, but surely worked its way to a 49-18 victory. Almont hosts Capac tomorrow and is at Sandusky on Tuesday. — M.S.

Imlay City: The Spartans fell to Blue Water Area Conference foe Armada in a heartbreaker in Imlay City on Tuesday, 50-49. “What a heartbreaker,” said coach Jaden Clobes. “This is our fourth game that we've lost by two points or less, and it comes down to coaching.”

The Spartans were led by Jacklyn Van Dyk, who poured in a team-high 14 points to go along with her three rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Morgan Lee had 11 points and three rebounds. Olivia Pauli recorded nine points, and Nicole Rahn chipped in with seven points.

The Lady Spartans will return to the hardwood on Friday hosting fellow BWAC member Yale. — B.P.

Lapeer West: The Lady Panthers upped their overall record to 15-1 with a 46-20 win over Metro rival Ortonville-Brandon Tuesday.

The main goal was to play good solid ball throughout as the struggling Blackhawks have just two wins on the season. West leapt out to a 12-2 firstquarter lead that ballooned to 25-10 by halftime. A 10-2 third quarter and 11-8 final quarter kept West in the driver's seat. Marisa Liburdi led with 14 points and was 4-for-7 at the line, while Shannon Brown scored 10, including two from 3-point range. Yazmen Dababneh chipped in with seven and Chanda June had six. — L.P.

Mayville: The Lady Wildcats hosted Harbor Beach on Tuesday and lost, 58- 19. The Pirates led, 16-3, after the first quarter and 33-5 at halftime.

The second half was no better for the Lady Wildcats. as they were outscored, 25-14. Ruth Squires led Mayville with nine points. while Harbor Beach was led by Tori Kraft with 25 and Ashley Guitar with 19. — E.H.


North Branch: The Lady Broncos lost to Caro, 51-26, in a Tri-Valley Conference-East game Tuesday at Caro. Jacqueline Kent led North Branch with eight points. The Broncos will visit Frankenmuth next Tuesday. — D.N.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Dryden: The Cardinals took a sevenpoint first-quarter lead, but wound up dropping a 53-43 decision to Bendle on Tuesday. Tony Gjonai led Dryden with 19 points. The Cardinals will visit Morrice on Friday. — D.N.

Lapeer West: The Panthers edged out Brandon, 74-69, Tuesday. The game was full of fouls from both teams and Brandon dogged West the entire night double-teaming at every opportunity. West was ahead, 19-9, after the first quarter and 33-24 at the break. Although Brandon outscored West, 27- 18, in the third, West responded with a 23-19 final stanza. David Price had 28 points and nine rebounds, Zeshawn Jones-Parker had 18 points and Cullen Turczyn had 16 points and was 10-for- 10 at the charity stripe. Friday is the big clash against Fenton at West. — L.P.

North Branch: In Tri-Valley Conference-East competition, the Broncos lost at Caro on Tuesday 59-43 despite a 10-point showing by Trevor Marceau and scoring seven each were Stuart Fielder and Garrett Bradley. For Caro, Jordan Bills had a game-high 14 points, Dustin Koelzer had 12 points and Jarred Pretzer scored nine. North Branch is at Frankenmuth on Tuesday and hosts Birch Run on Feb. 17. — M.S.
