LAPEER — The Lapeer Art Association (LAA) has taken over Gallery 194. The annual holiday art show with LAA has the walls, the floors and even the ceiling covered with artwork by local artists of all varieties. The show, titled “Holiday Extravaganza,” is on display at the Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer until Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

A large crowd of guests gathered at the art gallery last Saturday (Nov. 12) for an evening reception with many of the artists from LAA. Anyone who missed the reception, or those who would like to talk with the artists more, can find LAA featured artists at Gallery 194 anytime throughout the week, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dean Elkins and his wife, Judy, are both local artists, veterans to the Lapeer Art Association, featured in the holiday exhibit. The artistic couple both have their unique, framed photography on display and for sale on the walls of the gallery. The photography features everything from landscapes and old buildings to exotic animals and abstract designs.

Other veteran artists that local art followers will recognize in the show include the photography of Dale Vronch, the paintings of Jackie Piechowski and the stuffed “critters” of Salli Jones.

There are also several artists in the exhibit for whom the “Holiday Extravaganza” exhibit is their first Lapeer Art Association show. New artists include Jacqueline Beauvaris, Carolyn Dulin and Kathy Cassel.

The windows, which Cassel found and rescued, have been repainted with a special glass paint to give the appearance of stained glass. One of the larger pieces of hers at the Gallery, located near the rear of the gallery, is a multipanel window with colorful paintings of animals and landscapes. Cassel said the piece tells the story and has strong Celtic influences.

Gallery 194 is located at 194 W. Nepessing St. in downtown Lapeer, next door to the PIX Theatre. For more information about the Lapeer Art Association’s “Holiday Extravaganza” exhibit, call 810-667-3632 or go online to www.lapeerart.com.
