FLC hosts child workshop

LAPEER — The Family Literacy Center of Lapeer County will present a workshop on social skills for both parents and teachers to help children succeed in everyday situations. “Last One Picked ... First One Picked On” is a DVD presentation by educator and administrator Richard Lavoie. This is a program for parents with a child who is struggling with social skills. Participants can gain a greater understanding of social skills deficits and strategies for developing social competence. This workshop is offered at no cost to the public, but registration is required.

Two sessions will be offered for this program. The first session will be held on Tuesday, August 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. The second session will be on Thursday, August 25 from 10-11:30 a.m. Both classes will be held at the Marguerite deAngeli Branch Library, 921 West Nepessing St. Lapeer. Boating safety course

LAPEER — The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Dept. is offering its final boating safety course of the summer to earn a Boating Safety Certificate. Michigan law requires a Boating Safety Certificate for 12-15 year olds wishing to operate a boat, 12-31 year olds wishing to operate a personal watercraft, and parents of 12-13 year-olds if the child is to operate the PWC.

The class will be held in the basement of the Lapeer 911 Center, located at 2332 W. Genesee St., Lapeer from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 20. Cost is $5 per person, and each should bring a pencil and pen along with their own lunch.
