Auditions on for new show at the PIX Theatre
LAPEER Lapeer Community Theatre (LCT) is holding auditions for their spring show Almost, Maine. Auditions will be held at the PIX Theatre in downtown Lapeer on Sunday (April 17) from 3-6 p.m. and Monday (April 18) from 6-9 p.m.
Jan Betka is directing the play, which is a quirky comedy with a romantic twist. Betka is looking for both men and women, ages 20s to 40s. Performance dates are June 3-5 and June 10-11. Rehearsals will be held at the PIX Theatre on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
The auditions are open to all members of the public. LCT is always looking for new, fresh faces and previous acting experience is not required.
At the auditions, guests will be given small portions of the script to read both solo and with others. The director will ask the actors which part they want to try out for, but auditioning actors are usually asked to read for several different parts. Having actors read for different parts with different people helps the director find the right part for the right person. It also helps give the director a sense of chemistry between the actors.
It is not necessary for actors to be present at both auditions. Some actors like to attend both sessions, however, in case their performance was lacking the first time they tryout. Anyone looking to get an extra edge on the audition performance to read a copy of the script being held at the Marguerite deAngeli Library reference desk in Lapeer.
The LCT website, www.lapeerplays.com, provides a synopsis of Almost, Maine. On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almosts residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend almost in this delightful midwinter nights dream.
