Lapeer Tea Party Patriots meeting on April 5

LAPEER TWP. — The Lapeer Tea Party Patriots will hold their monthly public meeting on Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at the Maple Grove Church, located at 148 Maple Grove Rd., south of Imlay City Rd. in Lapeer Township. The tentative speaker is Gary Glen, president of the American Family Association. He will discuss the differences between public and private unions and Right to Work. Cooking for Crowds workshop on April 9

LAPEER — The Lapeer County MSU Extension is offering a class for volunteers who handle food. “Cooking for Crowds” is designed for non-profit groups that prepare food for their organization or for the public. Participants will learn to prevent the conditions during planning, purchasing, storage, preparation and service that may lead to food-borne illness outbreak at your next food fundraiser. Cost is $10 for first participant from an organization (they will receive a 115 page manual for the group) and $5 for each additional participant from the same organization (no manual included). Pre-registration is required. The class will be held at the Lapeer County MSU Extension office, 287 W Nepessing, Lapeer on Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the office for a registration form or more information.

Reading dog at deAngeli Library through April

LAPEER — Faith, a certified therapy dog, will continue listening to young readers at the Marguerite deAngeli Branch of the Lapeer District Library, located at 921 W. Nepessing St., in Lapeer during Tuesday afternoons throughout April. Faith, the 14-month old golden retriever, has been trained to listen to young readers. Trained dogs provide a nonjudgmental and entirely accepting audience that allows children the opportunity to practice their reading skills and become accomplished readers, thus improving their self-esteem and confidence. Faith is accompanied by her handler, Linda Todd, an experienced dog trainer. Young readers must sign-up in advance to read to Faith. Fifteen minute sessions are assigned on a first come, first served basis from 3:30-5 p.m. on Tuesdays. Parents or guardians must call the children’s desk at 810-664-6971 to set an appointment for their child.

Library Spring program with Michael Saint on April 18

LAPEER — Join the Lapeer District Library’s Marguerite deAngeli Branch, located at 921 W. Nepessing St., Lapeer on April 18 at 6 p.m. for a free program to welcome spring to Michigan. Michael Saint from the Good Earth Landscape Institute will be presenting “The 50/50 Garden” a landscaping technique using native, and non-native plants. Saint is a Master Gardener and gardening instructor with a lifelong passion for horticulture who will share the four principles of the forest and you will discover how to achieve a woodland or field of flowers that goes beyond main-stream gardening. Avoid foreclosure seminar


IMLAY CITY — The Lapeer County MSU Extension has a certified housing counselor to assist area residents in navigating the process of preventing foreclosure. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6 from 5-7:45 p.m. at the Ruth Hughes Library in Imlay City. Pre-registration is required by calling MSU Extension at 810-667- 0341. Topics discussed that night will include alternatives to foreclosure, making homes affordable program, the foreclosure process, the new foreclosure prevention laws and crisis spending plans. Space is limited.

St. Paul preschool and kindergarten program

LAPEER — St. Paul Preschool and Kindergarten will hold an open house and registration night on Tuesday, March 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visitors may come and see the facility, speak with the staff, and register students for next fall (a registration fee will be due). Children are welcomed and encouraged to attend. St. Paul is located at 90 Millville Road, just south of Lapeer West High School. Pregnancy resource center benefit auction on April 12

METAMORA TWP. — The Pregnancy Resource Center of Lapeer will hold the 20th Anniversary Fundraising Banquet on Tuesday, April 12 at the Hunter’s Creek Community Church, 2471 Metamora Rd., Lapeer. Doors open and the silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Free tickets are available on a first come, first served basis at the Pregnancy Resource Center and at Hunter’s Creek Community Church.
