Glass & Inspired Fiber Show open now

The Dance by Dave Hilty. LAPEER — Bright colors, smooth lines and lots of glass and glassinspired pieces is what visitors to Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer will see during the new Glass & Inspired Fiber show open through Sept. 4.

The show features the work of Oxford glass artist Dave Hilty and Grand Blanc quilt artist Mary Andrews.

“Dave and Mary’s work compliments each other beautifully,” said Gallery 194 Executive Director Carolyn McCarter. “Dave is a talented glass artist who has created new, more sculptural pieces for this show and Mary has been inspired by glass artist Dale Chihuly’s installation in Arizona with her new line of quilts ... Both artists’ works are organic, colorful and sculptural.”

The Gallery 194 Show will feature about 27 of Hilty’s pieces, 20 Chihuly-inspired pieces from Andrews and about 15 other pieces of her work.

An opening reception for Glass & Inspired Fiber will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6. The event, which will feature conversation with the featured artists and refreshments, is free and open to the public.

“They are both clearly talented people,” said McCarter. “The exhibit is inspiring.”
