New course record

LAPEER — Mike Hutchins Jr. of Imlay City shot a new course record at Castle Creek Golf Club on June 1. Hutchins, playing on the Pines course, shot a par on the first hole followed by three consecutive birdies. After a par on the fifth hole, Hutchins closed with four straight birdies to shoot seven-under par. Witnesses were Brady Sandusky, Dick Uplegger and Jon Roy. — E.H.

Soccer club tryouts

AREAWIDE — The Flint Steelers Soccer Club will be hosting tryouts on June 12 and 13 for fall 2010 and spring 2011 teams. The tryouts take place at Carman- Ainsworth Middle School. Details: www.flintsteelers.com. — E.H.

Youth basketball clinic

DRYDEN — Dryden will be hosting a youth basketball skills clinic on June 21-25 at Dryden High School. Cost is $80 per participant and includes a clinic T-shirt. Session one will be for grades 2-5 running from 10 a.m.-noon and session two is for grades 6-8 and runs from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

The Dryden basketball staff as well as guest clinicians including Mott basketball coach Steve Schmidt and others will focus on the fundamentals and skills required to to play the game of basketball. Details: 796- 2201X1151. — E.H.

Cardinals soccer camp

DRYDEN — The Cardinals host a soccer camp July 22-26 for ages 7-17. The cost of the camp, which is $125, includes five days of instruction from collegiate and professional coaches, a T-shirt, and a pizza dinner.

Instruction will be given by the Windsor Border Stars, University of Detroit Mercy, University of Michigan and Spanish National Team coaches and players. Registration form and payment must be turned in by June 1 to Dryden Community Schools. Details: Ken Kunz 810-798-3705. — E.H.

Lapeer West basketball camp

LAPEER — Improve your ball handling, shooting and defensive fundamentals at the Lapeer West boys basketball camp on June 14- 17 from 1:30-4 p.m. at the high school. West head coach Andy Roberts, his staff and the varsity players will conduct the camp. Cost is $25 with registration at the door. — E.H.

Take your mark

LAPEER — Any kids 9-14 years old interested in competing in the local Hershey track and field meet can come to Lapeer East High School on June 22 to compete. Registration begins at 5 p.m with the events beginning at 6 p.m. The Lapeer Parks and Recreation Dept. is hosting this free event and the winners in each event will qualify for the state Hershey track and field meet in Holt, MI on July 9. Westside soccer club

LAPEER — The Westside Soccer Club is looking for boys and girls, 16 years old and younger to join the travel soccer team. Lapeer West coaching staffs and players will be assisting with the club. Travel soccer team tryouts

LAPEER — The Lapeer Soccer Club travel teams will be holding tryouts for the 2010-2011 season on June 15 at the Lapeer Optimist Fields. The Lapeer Bandits girls squad will hold tryouts at 5:00 p.m. for all interested players ages 8-13 and the Lapeer Renegades boys team will hold tryouts at 6:30 p.m.

Broncos volleyball clinic upcoming

NORTH BRANCH — The Lady Broncos volleyball team and coaches will be conducting a volleyball clinic on June 15-18. The camp will be from 8-10 a.m and be held in the North Branch Middle School Gym. The cost is $40 per camper and $25 for each additional sibling with all campers
