Peterson joins Jim Riehl’s as used car manager

Mark Peterson Mark Peterson LAPEER — There’s a new face at Jim Riehl’s Friendly Chrysler Dodge Jeep on South Lapeer Road.

Mark Peterson recently joined the dealership as its used car manager. In the 60 days since he arrived in Lapeer from Sterling Heights, “he’s made a bunch of changes,” including doubling the dealership’s used car inventory and improving the quality of the offerings, said General Manager Bob Riehl.

Group, which also has

locations in Warren and Clinton Township. The 14-acre dealership, located just south of I- 69, has a 21,000-square-foot building and employs 38 people.

Peterson comes to Jim Riehl’s Friendly Chrysler Dodge Jeep from Detroit’s Lochmoor Chrysler Jeep, which was one of the nearly 800 Chrysler dealerships eliminated in the automaker’s restructuring last June.

Jobless rate now 17.2 %

LAPEER — Lapeer County’s unemployment rate in April continued a three-month pattern of decline, dropping from 19.1 percent in March to 17.2 percent, according to figures released Thursday by the Michigan Dept. of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth

Of Michigan’s 83 counties, in April, Lapeer County had the 65th highest jobless rate in the state, equal with Clare, Keweenaw and Montcalm counties.

Elsewhere in the region for April, the unemployment rate for nearby counties were as follows:

• Sanilac — 17.6 percent, down from 20.1 percent;

• St. Clair — 16.8 percent, down from 18.2 percent;

• Tuscola — 16.1 percent, down from 18.2 percent;

• Huron — 15.5 percent, down from 18.1 percent;

• Macomb — 15.1 percent, down from 15.8 percent;

• Genesee — 14.9 percent, down from 16.3 percent;

• Oakland — 13.2 percent, down from 13.7 percent.
