Gill makes semifinals for Spartans bowling JACKSON — Imlay City’s Nathan Gill lost in the semifinals to Comstock’s Tray Eckler, 362-339 with games of 193-169, 165-174, last Saturday at Airport Lanes in the finals of the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Div. 3 individual bowling tournament. With Eckler going on to take the title, Gill made it to the semifinals after besting Essexville-Garber’s Nathan Ayala, 395-337 in the quarterfinals after defeating Hemlock’s Anthony Rios 413-339 in the round of 16. Also making the Div. 3 boys individual state finals was Capac’s Miles Stanis, who placed 46th in the qualifying round with scores of 171, 166, 149, 210, 156, and 187 (1,039_) At the Div. 3 girls’ individual finals, Capac’s Rosie Day fell short of the round of 16 by coming in 47th in the qualifying round with games of 157, 131, 145, 139, 183, and 179 (934). In the Div. 3 team finals last Friday, the Imlay City boys’ finished 14th in the 18-team qualifying field to fall short of the quarterfinals cut, which went to the top eight squads. In a format of eight Baker games and two standard contests, the Spartans posted scores of 176, 154, 176, 192, 224, 118, 215, 177, 904 and 868. Div. 2, Super Bowl, Canton Lapeer East’s Tyler Graham was the area’s lone qualifier for the boys’ individual finals last Saturday, taking the 32nd position in a 60-man field at 182, 191, 203, 180, 178 and 169 (1103) to end up on the outside looking in at the round of 16. On the girls’ side, Lapeer West’s Hannah Gauthier also qualified for the event by coming in fourth at regionals, but was not listed in the 59 person qualifying group. Div. 4, Sunnybrook Lanes, Sterling Heights Out of 60 bowlers last Saturday, Dryden’s Brad Anderson wound up 24th in the boys’ individual finals qualifier to miss the round of 16 despite rolling a 214, 165, 192, 201, 188 and a 184 (1,144). Last Friday at the boys’ team finals, the Cardinals posted a final score of 3,124 to finish 12th. |
