DAR’s Good Citizens Scholarships announced

LAPEER COUNTY — The recipients of the 2009-10 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens scholarship were recently announced.

The DAR Good Citizen program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students. Selected students must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Students who enter to win the scholarship must submit two letters of recommendation, official grade transcripts, a timed essay and a personal description.

Of the following listed one winning entry will advance to state and possibly a national level of judging. State winners receive a $250 scholarship, and a national winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

Lapeer area recipients are:

• Elizabeth Pruitt of Capac High School

• Katherine Kreiner of Brown City High School

• Alexandria Beaudry of Lapeer East High School

• Caitlyn Schroeder of Lapeer West High School

• Brian Curell of North Branch High School
